The intent of this section was to provide a demographic overview of the engineers surveyed from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).


Ninety Nine Percent (99%) of the respondents reside in the United States with 86% who are male and 14% female.  Three quarters of the engineers who participated are between the ages of 27 and 44.

Gender Age Ranges

 

Ninety percent (90%) of those surveyed currently work as engineers, 9% presently work outside the engineering field, and 1% were unemployed (and seeking employment in an engineering field).   

Ninety-seven percent (97%) of respondents hold Bachelor's Degrees in multiple engineering and other degree programs from 19 countries with most (93%) degrees obtained from the United States.  Forty-nine (49%) earned Master's Degrees and 14% hold PhD degrees from institutions in the United States, Canada, Russian Federation and Sweden. The percentage of males to females regarding degrees obtained was constant through the PhD level.
