National Critical Technologies
America's future economic development is dependent upon continuous advancements in the fields of science and engineering. The advancements made will lead to tomorrow's new products.
At the behest of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, RAND, a national security think-tank, prepared a report concerning the National Critical Technologies (NCTs). Multiple advancements have been identified in seven categories that will have a major influence on America's economy and national security in the coming decades.
Student teams will employ technical applications from one of these seven categories to solve a problem their team has identified or as the focus of their research. Student teams from countries other than the U.S. should use the NCTs only as a reference tool. However, those students are encouraged to identify similar technologies within their own countries that could have a comparable impact on their nation.
