Technical advisors and Final Judges complete profile setup. Although the initial procedure for creating these profiles is somewhat similar, advisors and judges provide this information for different reasons, and the steps afterward diverge.

Technical Advisors

A National Critical Technology (NCT) Profile allows technical advisors who setup accounts and did not have prior contact with a student team or teacher to potentially find projects that match their expertise.

  • Login to your ISTF Technical Advisor Account ("My ISTF" page).

  • At the bottom of your main ("Project List") page, click the "Profile Setup" button.

  • Complete the Verification Questions so that the ISTF Director can officially confirm your identity. (NOTE: You can only answer these questions once through your account.)

  • Click the "Add/Edit/Remove NCT Sub-Areas" button. You can choose up to 10 of the 61 NCT Sub-Areas to represent your knowledge and experience in relation to the National Critical Technologies (NCTs).

    • Figure 1: View this screen before any selections are made.

    • Figure 2: View this screen as selections are being made.

    • Figure 3: View this screen after all ten selections are made.

  • After you make your NCT selections, click the "View Matches" button to review the available projects within the categories you chose. (NOTE: You can add to and edit your selections at any time and see how it affects your list of matching projects.)

Judges

Judges' completed profiles help to ensure that they evaluate projects based on their background, expertise, and experience.

  • Login to your ISTF Final Judge Account ("My ISTF" page).

  • At the bottom of your main ("Project List") page, you should see the "Profile Setup" heading and three buttons.

  • Click the "General" button and complete the questions (all Final Judges do this).

  • If you have an educational background, click the "Educational" button and complete the questions.

  • If you have some kind of technical background or experience:

    • Click the "Technical" button.
Please note, the areas you select do not need to be exact. Chances are, if you have had any experience in any of the sub NCT's, please select them.

  • Please remember, the amount of time it takes to assign projects to judges may vary so please check your "Project List" periodically to see if it has changed.
