Component 1

Task 3

The use of waste management and technology has advanced science greatly. In the past people would just dump their garbage everywhere and not care what happened to the environment, or how it was polluted. When everyone started contracting dangerous diseases that seemed to appear out of nowhere, people started to notice a change. In Memphis, Tennessee, from 1878 to the present, there are many things being done about waste. Not just here, but everywhere in the world. In Memphis, people started to contract yellow fever from all the garbage that was laying around. The mayor noticed this and started an agency that helped promote waste management. Ever since then, Memphis has been a near spotless town with garbage trucks, air filters, and pollution reducing systems in place all over. Thanks to the sciences of waste management, Memphis is once again clean.
